ACC Update

ACC Workplace Cover Levy Changes

ACC Workplace Cover levy changes take effect from July 2025. Learn what’s changing and how NZ Bookkeepers and businesses can prepare for new ACC levy rules.

A heads-up for all business owners and Bookkeepers supporting clients with ACC matters: ACC will begin sending out Workplace Cover levy invoices from July.

Why it’s important to check your ACC Details

Many businesses have their details automatically assigned in ACC’s system. Unfortunately, these automatic assignments often result in the wrong levy amount being charged on invoices. To avoid unexpected costs – or the hassle of corrections – ACC strongly encourages businesses to check and confirm their details now, before invoices are issued.

Key changes to ACC Levies

ACC is also rolling out changes to how levies are calculated. These changes aim to improve fairness, ensure sustainability of the scheme, and respond to feedback from businesses. Depending on whether you’re self-employed or an employer – and your specific policy – you could notice differences in your next invoice or future invoices.

Some of the key changes include:

  • An increase in the average levy rate
  • Changes to minimum and maximum liable earnings levels
  • New levy classifications for businesses operating in the sports sector or running home improvement stores
  • Interest charges will apply to all instalment plans from 2026
  • From 2026, businesses outside Experience Rating will no longer subsidise those within the programme
  • The No Claims Discount will end from 2026

It’s crucial to understand these updates, as they could impact your levy calculations and business costs.
